ABOUT IMOVE
At iMOVe, our mission is to use the transformative power of the arts as a tool for healing, self-expression, career building, and leadership development. Rooted in community-based therapeutic practices, we are dedicated to breaking the cycles of intergenerational trauma, reducing recidivism rates, and improving economic opportunities.

Our participants predominantly hail from African Nova Scotian communities such as North Preston, East Preston, Cherrybrook, Uniacke Square, and Mulgrave Park. Many have faced incarceration and endured marginalization within economic, cultural, health, educational, and justice systems, often contending with personal and generational traumas.

Through restorative and transformative approaches, we foster self-awareness, personal responsibility, and community solidarity through arts production, mentorship, and the nurturing of a supportive surrogate family.

iMOVe empowers individuals and communities to unearth and amplify their narratives and voices, offering healing and instilling hope both locally and nationally.

Our journey began in 2009 with our first life story video project at the Nova Scotia Youth Facility in Waterville. This initiative evolved into the Kintsugi Monologues, iMOVe’s signature program, blending therapeutic intervention for trauma with hands-on film-production training. Subsequently, we expanded the Kintsugi Monologue program to institutions such as the Nova Scotia Community College and the Central Nova Correctional Facility. Participants have leveraged this method to create award-winning short documentaries and produce films for platforms like CBC and NFB.

Participants at iMOVe embark on a profound personal and professional therapeutic journey, starting as program participants, advancing to apprentices, and ultimately emerging as skilled industry practitioners. Through rigorous training and evaluation, our teams emerge as competitive, compassionate, and adept professionals prepared to excel in the creative industries.
iMOVe remains steadfast in its commitment to providing healing and hope to the individuals and communities we serve, tirelessly striving towards this vital mission.
